The placement

Where ChatGPT ads appear, and who sees them

An ad appears in a separate, labelled unit under ChatGPT's reply. It carries your business name and icon, an image, a headline, a short description and one link. OpenAI picks the ad by looking at the conversation, your landing page, your ad text and the context hints you supply, then runs a relevance-weighted, second-price auction.

  • Shown to logged-in adults on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts stay ad-free.
  • Kept away from accounts believed to belong to someone under 18.
  • Not placed near sensitive or regulated topics such as health, mental health and politics.
  • Conversations stay private from advertisers, and ads have no influence on the answers.
  • Delivered on the Android and iOS apps and on mobile and desktop web, with platform targeting if you need it.

How it works

From a conversation to a tracked lead

ChatGPT Ads behave differently from search ads. There is no keyword to bid on, so the work goes into describing the moments your customer is in, and into tracking that proves which of those moments paid off.

01

A question is asked

Someone asks ChatGPT to help them compare providers, products or prices.

02

Context is matched

ChatGPT weighs the conversation against your hints, ad text and landing page.

03

Your ad appears

A labelled ad shows under the answer, clearly apart from it.

04

The click carries oppref

An oppref click ID is added to your URL and stored by the OpenAI Pixel.

05

The lead is counted

A form, call or sale is sent back through the Pixel or Conversions API.

Pricing

ChatGPT Ads management pricing

Our fee is flat and published, and the ad account stays in your name. OpenAI's own minimum is 25 dollars a day in USD or CAD, so a full month at the floor costs about 750 dollars in media. Budgets above 10,000 dollars a month get a custom quote.

ChatGPT Ads vs Google Ads

The two platforms reach people at different points in the same decision, so we often suggest running both. See our Google Ads management page for how we handle the search side.

Creative enhancements switch on by default

From Friday, October 30, OpenAI enables creative enhancements on new and existing campaigns unless an advertiser opts out. ChatGPT can then rewrite headlines and descriptions to fit the conversation, translate the text, resize images and send the click to a different page on your website. Each adapted version can run without review, and Ads Manager does not show a preview of every variation.

This can widen your reach, and it also means ChatGPT will repeat whatever your pages say, outdated prices included. We decide the setting per campaign with each client, keep prices, offers and service areas current on the pages ChatGPT draws from, and watch for clicks landing on pages that were never meant to be ad destinations. Details are in OpenAI's creative enhancements guide.

Who it fits

Is your business a good fit for ChatGPT Ads?

Usually a good fit
  • Local service businesses where one job is worth several hundred dollars or more, such as HVAC, roofing, moving and renovation.
  • Online stores with clear products, prices and a working checkout.
  • B2B and professional firms whose buyers research and compare before they call.
  • Businesses that already track leads and want a second paid channel next to Google Ads.
Better to wait
  • Health, mental health and other categories OpenAI keeps ads away from.
  • Sites without conversion tracking, or with landing pages that are slow or out of date.
  • Budgets that cannot sustain the 25-dollar daily minimum for at least a month.

Not sure? The readiness call answers this before you spend anything on ads.

Tracking

How we measure ChatGPT Ads

Counting clicks is easy. The number we care about is how many of them turned into calls, bookings and sales, and our marketing analytics team sets that up before launch, following OpenAI's conversion measurement guide.

oppref kept intact

OpenAI adds an oppref click ID to your landing page URL. We make sure redirects, booking widgets and multi-step forms keep it, so a lead can be tied back to the ad that started it.

Pixel plus Conversions API

The Pixel records actions in the browser, and the Conversions API sends them from your server or CRM. When both send an event, they share one event ID so OpenAI counts it once.

Numbers you can reconcile

Ads Manager may include modelled conversions and uses its own attribution, so totals can differ from GA4 or your CRM. We report all three side by side and explain where the differences come from.

Consent-aware setup

Automatic advanced matching hashes form details in the browser before sending. We configure it, and your consent banner, so data is only sent where your privacy notice and the law allow.

Ads and AI SEO solve different problems

A paid placement sits under the answer, while being named inside the answer comes from content, reviews and citations. That is what our AI SEO services and generative engine optimization work on. Many clients run both.
